Isaac Chong Wai’s Falling Reversely included in the permanent collection of the Hamburger Bahnhof-Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart (17/01/2024)

In the coming years, Hamburger Bahnhof-Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart in Berlin intends to use funding to strengthen exchange and expand its international expertise. The Hamburger Bahnhof International Companions association, established for this purpose, aims to promote diversity and inclusion through education, exhibitions, events, and collection acquisitions. An initial initiative is a Saha Association Istanbul-funded position for a curator with specialized knowledge of the Turkish region. The Arndt Foundation, which is also based in Berlin, is now supporting the purchase of a work by a Berlin-based artist for the National Gallery's collection each year through the new association. It will begin with Isaac Chong Wai's Falling Reversely, which is currently on display at the museum's new collection presentation in the west wing of the museum.

The donated work Falling Reversely—Collective Fall 1 (2023) and Falling Reversely—Falling and Dance (Ichi) (2022) consists of photographic works based on a performance in which the performers share the collective pain of violation, as if practicing a ritual, reclaiming the autonomy of their own bodies.
