Isaac Chong Wai has been awarded the Désirée and Hans Michael Jebsen Fellowship (06/07/2024)

Isaac Chong Wai has been awarded the Désirée and Hans Michael Jebsen Fellowship from the Asian Cultural Council, an artist residency that will take place in New York for six months.

Chong will research the performance art scene in New York, focusing on Asian diaspora communities’ practices and platforms. He wants to understand the portrayal of Asian bodies in art history. Through networking and collaboration, he seeks to grow professionally, foster connections between Hong Kong and New York, contribute to dialogues on anti-Asian racism and expand his video work “Falling Reversely,” developed in response to attacks against Asian individuals during the pandemic. He aims to challenge stereotypes and promote empathy by connecting with AAPI artists and cultural workers.
